On Thursday, 27th February 2025, EcoClub 360 in collaboration with Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and Embassy of Denmark in Ghana organized a workshop on the theme “Strengthening Climate Reporting for Media Professionals and Climate Enthusiasts” at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.
The Workshop aimed at building the capacity of media professionals and climate enthusiasts in the areas of basic climate science, Ghana’s climate policy framework, climate communication and storytelling techniques to enable participants navigate the complexities of accurate climate information dissemination. The Workshop also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders for effective climate action.
The Workshop was structured into three (3) sessions with insightful presentations by climate experts including Mr. George Opare Asare from Ignitia Dr. Derek Sarfo-Yiadom from Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and an award-winning journalist and a passionate climate advocate, Mr. Solomon Gumah from Ghana News Agency (GNA).
In his presentation, Mr. Asare noted that climate change was no longer an environmental issue but a major threat to agriculture, health, education, governance and global and national security, necessitating urgent solutions. Mr. Gumah, on his part, highlighted 13 key points necessary for effectively communicating the complexities of climate change. Dr. Sarfo-Yiadom also provided insights into the evolution of the Global Climate Change Policy with focus on Ghana’s Climate Policies and effective communication strategies.
Participants selected from different sectors including media, education, health, local government, security, civil society, industry and young people, were delighted at the initiative that sought to locally coordinate efforts towards combating the global climate crisis.
The Workshop formed part of EcoClub 360’s project on the theme “Amplifying Climate Solutions for Sustainable Development and Democratic Governance”.
