ECOCLUB 360 Educational Tour at Mckingtorch Africa

November 29, 2023

Plastic Pollution
Pollution, in any form, is harmful to the environment. Plastic waste pollution creates problems for humans, wildlife and marine ecosystems. Plastic can take one thousand years to decompose, i.e. it is not eco-friendly. Soil damage, groundwater poisoning, production of chemical pollution, as well as killing of oceans life and terrestrial wildlife are some harmful impacts of plastic pollution. A report by the World Economic Forum (2023) indicates that, Ghana generates approximately 840,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year and approximately only 9.5% of the waste is collected for recycling.

Plastic Recycling; A Fight Against Plastic Pollution
Plastic recycling helps to minimise the amount of plastic waste that ends up in oceans and landfills, whilst also serving as an avenue for a gainful business. This aligns with one of the objectives of EcoClub 360 – to equip young people with knowledge and skills in plastic waste management. Another objective of EcoClub 360 is to organize field trips for Club members.

EcoClub 360 Educational Tour
In view of the above, EcoClub 360 organised educational tour for EcoClub 360 Ghanata Senior High School Club members on November 25, 2023 at Mckingtorch Africa, Adenta in Accra. The Founder and C.E.O. of the Facility, Mr. Makafui Awuku welcomed the Club members and enlightened them about the craft of transforming plastic waste into valuable items as School Desk, Hand Wash Basin, Wall Hanging, Christmas Tree, among others. The Club members seized the opportunity to participate in the fabrication of a Christmas Tree whilst displaying crucial skills such as teamwork, attention to details and creativity.

The excursion provided the Club members an exciting practical experience and insight into plastic issues to augment the knowledge they have acquired over the period for sustainable environmental action and informed decision making as future policy makers.

The Club members were joined by their Patron – Mr. Timon Agyapong, Chairman of EcoClub 360 Steering Committee – Prof. Mawuli Dzodzomenyo and the Founder – Miss Patience Ahiabor.
